I just came back to post up a quick blog before I start washing my clothes, then off again for the preparations for this weekend's French Art Festival. I just got the lyrics for Better Than This printed out so we can have an actual rehearsal for tomorrow with the band..
And because I have the lyrics, I'm the one singing -_-
Anyways.. X)
Thank you, baby!
Not exactly my sort of present as my wallet was still in good condition and was the wallet I liked, but then again, I'd figure this would be a rather matured present..
Thanks again x)
I would write longer lah, but she's not going to drop by this journal also, anyways. LOL
French Art... The premiere of Johnny Rock n Roll from Panic Overdrive/Six Stringed Samurai X_X
I kind of got lazy to log into Panic Overdrive's Multiply account, so I decided to post it up here.
Anyways, the new song is up and ready, but then again, with Moe being absent from the previous jamming session, I'm not confident if we're going to pull off that song properly. Besides that, I need to look for the time to record draft copies and samples to distribute to the whole band so that they would know the structure of the song.
But then again, I'm bummed up with my assignments and college's being a serious bitch at the moment. I can't stop thinking about this semester and it's seriously pissing me off.
Anyways, we're up on stage this coming Sunday, the French Art Festival. Now, don't ask me for details. When the band performs, only 3 people know - that would be Moe, Ying Kit and Joshua. Roy and I, on the other hand, would be left at a blur. Sometimes, we wouldn't even know if we're performing even if our performance is just a day away.
So, come what may, French Art Festival, we shall unveil a rather raw song with slightly raw talent and artistic composition (I hope? Didn't turn out the way I wanted it to be due to complications and too much work..), and only 1% of it sounds very Van Halen-ish, and that is just the 8 bar intro. No more, no less.
And not much of solo-ing, I think. There goes the whole idea of making the song sound really old school and vintage-based. Oh well.
Sometimes, things should be kept to simplicity, and I think this is the finalised version.
Besides that, Go Johnny Go is a song full of mistakes. In fact, the current chorus was supposed to be the verse, the verse was supposed to be the chorus, the pre-chorus was discovered by accident because of the whole band getting confused with the structure, the bridge was done out of sheer desperation in completing the song, ending the song with a higher key and with that so called planned ending was also due to the reason that the whole band was confused with the structure of the song, again.
It's a song full of accidents, in other words. In fact, the intro is based on accidental notes based on an Amaj chord on an Am key.. So.. Yeah. Lol
It's something like drunk driving. You do dope shit without thinking.
Well, I suppose that's about it from my side and the new song. I suppose I can get back to my guitar, or maybe some sleep and try not to worry about my assignments.. It's affecting my sleep and consciousness..
For those who are going to be there at the French Art Festival, see you all there. For those who wants to go but happens to be down with work at Island Plaza's Nike shop....................
... Just take care of yourself? :(. LOL
See you all there! We hope to rock the stage along with the other bands there x)
Soundcheck was not bad but scary. Of course, they had inexperienced soundmen once again during the first soundcheck which made things horrible for some of us. Ear piercing settings for the bass, guitars, and vocals. Uneven sound level for instruments, and the list goes on. Thank goodness that the better soundmen came by right before the whole thing started.
What scared me was that whenever they did the sound check for the drums, and when they kicked the bass drum, I heard extra jingles. I looked up, and I saw air condition ventilation ducts and a shit load of flurocent lights. Yeah, the sound kind of.. moved the things up there which gave me the idea of it all being shattered halfway through the performance, hitting innocent audiences, but that wouldn't happen now, would it?
The performance was not that bad. Except that I performed with an empty stomach and a thirsty mouth. Seriously, a bad experience for myself. And when I was performing halfway, I couldn't really feel my 1st/e string. My fear was that it could've snapped which will cause the other strings to go out of tune as well. But I have faced a new problem last night. My string was being pushed off the fret board, and it was trapped behind my first fret.
I never new that'll happen to me.. Talk about Steve Vai hitting his strings so hard until his 1st string gets stuck behind his neck pickup. Lol
Panic Overdrive. Ahhh.. The usual lah. Got heavy metal song, head bang. Got solo, went solo. When there were no vocals but only instruments, did some never-done-before Steve Vai top and bottom necks based on 4 beats-in-a-bar sorta thing (And yay! The crowd cheered!! XD XD XD XD XD). Then came.. Well, most probably, a signature by many great guitarists - the 2-hands-on-the-neck legato trick:
But not this one, of course:
But then again, for the night, watching school children playing Elvis Presley sorta music was really good. I don't know how, and where, but bloody hell. Watching a 13 year old kid playing super clean country blues riffs made me super jealous! Also, I respected the whole band. Seriously, I never watched anything better.
There were various music genres for the night. I enjoyed them all. And it was crazy. The drummer for Panic Overdrive, Joshua Tan, was the drummer for the Flaming Pandas (Underwhere). The guitarist and bassist of the Flaming Pandas were in Evan's (ex-drummer for Dysnomia) new project. It was like, all of us were sharing members. And since Evan, Ying Kit, Roy and I were there, we decided to pull of a personal joke by going on stage together to play what we used to play back in 2005 in Dysnomia. Lol
Ahhh. The whole concert thing didn't go bad. It went pretty well, except I think that it wasn't properly promoted because I didn't really see many people? Plus the hall was sooooo small O_O.
After that, I headed off to watch Spiderman 3.
Spiderman 3
Once again, Marvel or the movie director has done it again. But then again, the viewers of movies like these won't ever know the true storyline for the comic-converted-into-the-movie sort of thing. Besides the storyline, I have only three say.
1) The part where the two policemen were trying to look for Sandman in the streets after he got used to his new powers, the camera was really bad. Inexperienced First Person Shooter gamers or those who never played FPS games, could've got dizzy. The whole scene reminded me of a bad game of Half-Life. Even Quake 3 wasn't as bad as that.
I don't know what they're trying to pull off.
2) Venom's a dumbass. I mean, seriously. I remember in the comics where the symbiote got to Eddie Brock, he had an IQ of..well, nothing. I never heard Venom speak so much. Of course, he wasn't as dumb as The Hulk, but.. Whatever.
Oh. And they missed out on this in the movie:
What? Oh. I'll give you 4 other pictures so you can spot the similarity..
There you go. They missed out on Venom's signature! The tongue and the shitload of droolings. Boo hoo :(
3) I don't like the Black Spiderman. Too much bling blings. At least make the suit look like a signature or a sign of the symbiote. Venom was supposed to look like the Black Spiderman and vice versa, only because of the symbiote. I prefer the Black Spiderman this way. I find it super sexayh <3
That's it from me, I suppose. Now, I'll just wait for Spiderman 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10 for Venom's offsprings to appear in the movie.. Carnage <3
Then comes Scream, Hybrid, and that purple symbiote with the long frog legs dude..
Half way through, we saw Stan Lee!!!! Now that was worth the wait! The legend of Marvel <3.. Now, which Marvel movie was it again that we never got to see Stan Lee? Hmmm..
Overall, Spiderman 3 is not bad. But for serious Spidey hardcore fans, I wouldn't dare say. The first Spiderman already pissed off half of the world. Same went for the second Spiderman, on a lesser scale. Spiderman 3? Don't know lah.
I just came back from an ex-schoolmate's place at Gat Lebuh Macallum. Sat down there and caught up with him since I was riding the bike and not driving the car. Nothing much.
Anyways, today's the day that got the whole band into a state of panic, no thanks to Roy. Called him since last night and no answer. He didn't even turn up for jamming last night. Found out that he left his phone in his friend's car. Sheesh. Complications and frustration occured there. Felt bad to bug Joshua to pick Moe up after he picked me up. Was late behind schedule.
First performance was at 12pm. We were the 2nd band (there were only 2 bands. Panic Overdrive and Ian's band.. Which I forgot the name. Paiseh. lol). Practically screwed up on a lot of places, bits and solos. But it was satisfying. Panic Overdrive catches the attention of youths.. Commercialised music, so it's pretty much suitable for everybody in the crowd.
Managed to see my form 5 Maths teacher! Glad to hear that she's doing okay. I just found out from my ex-schoolmate that she has cancer. :( .. Must be lucky to actually meet up with her. Although we played a lot of .. well, Rock music, she said we pulled off a great show. Wheee!
2nd performance and set was at 2pm. Played Better Than This, Don't Bring Her Around, Waiting For You and My Friend. The crowd was even better because the whole hall was packed this time. Support from the old and the young was amazing! Really made you didn't want to get off stage.
I suffered from a series of nervousity. Couldn't keep my legs still. They just had to shiver tremendously @.@.. Also, due to starvation, I nearly fainted on stage after pushing my vocal chords too far during the first set.
For the 2nd performance, it was really good. When we started off My Friend with the hard intro, I did a last minute decision to head bang during the intro since it was hard and heavy. Although I thought it was an odd idea to headbang when nobody in the band would do it except for Joshua and Moe, suprisingly, the crowd I would least expect to go wild..actually went wild and showed a lot of support.
I think it would look kind of cool? Seeing some dude wearing full black with a silver tie.. Playing a guitar with a colour contrasted to the outfit.. And well, headbanging with that School of Rock - Rock stance. LOL.
The sort of headbanging position/stance where Mic Thompson of SlipKnoT would use..
Besides that, would come a mix of Alexi Laiho in headbanging in a different method.. not sure how to explain. Refer to M is for Metal from The Alphabet of Manliness by Maddox. Lol
Ahhh .. not bad. The sound was good, but somewhat too sharp. No soundcheck was provided, but it was okay as we were kind of behind schedule. Everything went over the benchmark. At least above average. Everybody did well during the performance, except for that person from the Snake Show thing who got bitten by a Mangrove snake. Pity.
Oh. And I think some might complain about the food fair this year? It rained, so the field was muddy. I don't know. I never went around checking out what's being provided this year, so I can't spare my 2 cents about this year's food fair.
Then again, the performance rocked.. been a while since I last saw a crowd this supportive XD XD XD XD XD XD
Well, this Friday would mark the day of the due date of my first microeconomics assignment. I don't know, but it's not entirely up to my standards. I know there are so many available reasons that exists in the world for me to stuff into my assignment to make it look a little bit longer, but I ran out of ideas.
My assignment? Probably the easiest one so far. It's all about logical sense. Using the analysis of the supply and demand curve to explain the changes through situations affecting a certain product. It's all about the same, anyways.
I was thinking of seeking help from you all here, but I think this assignment should be done by myself. It's fair enough, no? I just have to study my textbook a little bit more to receive inspiration to think and to write.
Besides that, I think I found a loophole when it comes to calling your DiGi friends when they're not in Malaysia. Lol. If they're in your FnF list, the rate you're being charged at, is the same. But of course, in odd places like Singapore, your friend gets charged for RM2 per minute when you get RM0.15 per minute. XD..
And yes, I wasn't conscious about the fact of the receiver getting charged by per minute, so I kind of got that person into trouble with her parents. Oopsie daisy.
Besides fun, I think the fact of my Mid Terms being on the 7th to the 11th of May, I'll be canceling my planned KL trip to view the apartment I am going to stay soon, and getting used to the environment there. Therefore, I will be performing alongside Panic Overdrive in Disted College on the 5th of May.
And no, I don't want to get started about my progress in music. Getting from bad to worse, and I have no mood to blog about it..
God. Mid terms. My Financial Accounting lecturer is leaving for Manchester soon, and there's no classes for next week -_- ..
Wonderful.
How am I going to make it through my mid terms? I don't even have a basic foundation of accounts..
That is the worst thing so far that has ever happened to me in college. Gah. If I don't pass my mid terms, the chances of me passing my Finals would be low. And if the chances of me passing my finals is low, I won't be able to get good grades for my Financial Accounting. And if that happens, it'll be one subject down to waste when it's a potential exemption.
Oh well. That's that. I'll just go enjoy my Season 3 of South Park until I think of something better to write in the assignment I'll be handing in this Friday..
Besides the several problems mentioned above, picking a decent laptop is also giving me a headache. Budget's underbudget.. Arggghhhhhhhhhhhh
Wait a minute. Is a graphic card really that important in a laptop? Paul and (I think) Edmund asked me to get a laptop with an on-board graphic card while my brother is all pantang over on-board graphic cards.. Then again, having a laptop with a graphic card lightens the load off the processor/motherboard from suffering major graphic loads..
But getting a laptop with a graphic card is going to be more than 3,999.. Then again, I'm not going to have this laptop to install NFS: Carbon or GT4 in any way since I have a PS2 sitting at home. I can always wait for 4 months to play when I'm in KL. Lol.
How? T.T
Need help..feedbacks..comments.. I'm computer hardware illiterate. Lol
Oooo lala.. Laptops with fingerprint recognition system.. XD.. so funs XD XD XD XD XD XD
DANIEL. I NEED YOU TO CALL ME ON MY DIGI NUMBER DUDDEEEEEEEEEE. I lost your maxis number since my 6230i kantoi. And I don't know where the fuck is your Digi number in my Digi number. FUCK -_-
Anyways, I just received news from Moe that we'll be playing 1 set instead of the originally planned 2 sets. We'll be playing from 12.45am to 1.15pm this Saturday at Bukit Jelutong stadium in Shah Alam.
That's it for the Panic Overdrive update.
But here's my personal update!
Since Moe and his cousin will be traveling down to KL by themselves, that leaves Ying Kit, Roy and me.. Well, traveling down practically alone. Ying Kit and I plan to leave right after the Crown Jewel gig, and I hope it would be.. Well, I'm not sure when, but hopefully leaving at 9.30pm, and arriving at KL at 1.30am or 2am.. So at least we can, well, get people to actually pick us up.
Hence, this is where I really need Daniel's help. CALL MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
Roy will be the problem here, but I trust him well enough that he should be able to arrive in KL way before the performance. He plans to leave at 8.30am on Saturday morning, but.. Dude:
Leaving at 8.30am.. Arriving in KL at 12.30am, drive to Shah Alam with traffic = 2pm = our set's over.
I'm going to go nuts very VERY soon. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
At least Ying Kit, Roy and I can come back earlier instead of taking like.. the 8.30pm bus as planned. Can get like.. 4.30pm or..Whatever it is. Yay.
Talk about a suey week. I went to check out the prices for the Nokia 6151 and it had dropped like RM200 less than its original price. The 512mbs MicroSD is at RM99 (I'll settle this no worries..), and my dad agreed after knowing of my problem in.. well, the 6230i issue.
There goes a RM830 for him... And an additional RM 2400 for my semester fees @.@
Thank goodness. I owe him big time... And I believe I owe him more than I can ever think..
I don't know if you all are aware, but I think you all are. This Saturday at the Yamaha Asian Beat Finals, Penang band, Ocean of Fire will be representing Malaysia in the competition. Guest judges such as the guitarist of Black Light Burns - Wes Borland, and the drummer of Fragile - Kozo "The King of Strokes" Suganuma and many others. I heard that Pop Shuvit will be the guest judges too?
Anyways, this Saturday Night, the bands will kick it off, hopefully by not slamming their guitars on the given amps, but by showing off showmanship, creativity, ideas and the message they wish to deliver through music. That's what music is all about once you're on stage. The whole thing will kick off at 7.30pm, this Saturday, March 10th at Sunway Lagoon Turf Beach. The entrance fees are RM38.
Trust me, it's one competition you would not want to miss. As for me, I really wish I could attend and show my support alongside Uglymen (who's going to be there too), but my health is affecting me greatly due to lack of sleep.
Of course, I slept well this morning, and I ended up missing to send Khai Loon off at the airport this morning.
So for those who are in Kuala Lumpur, or those who are planning to go to Kuala Lumpur, please do drop by the Yamaha Asian Beat competition, support the indie bands there, and watch what Asian musicians bring.
And I'm pointing this out to a certain Daniel Hon Wei Cheang!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, if you can, get Wes Borland's autograph! LOL
Here's a song which is worth the wait:
Ocean of Fire - Ctrl + Alt + Del
I never knew that Jonathan Scully was that nuts. LOL
Anyways, to Ocean of Fire, all the best to y'all man. Still loving your materials and instrumental music, I understand, is hard to win competitions, so all the best! I think you all would be the only instrumental band there? Well, I'm not sure. But all the best! Good luck. .wahahahahahahaa...
Anyways, for more information, you can view the pages shown in the reference area of this journal (just scroll down lah.)
Mood:Sick Listening To:Some stuff dropping into the toilet bowl.
This has got to be the best place to blog, man. No doubts about it. Whether if it's internationally or locally, it's no doubt that the toilet's the only sanctuary where I blog in peace. Or getting inspirations? Hmmm.
For some reason, I had this odd drum beat going on in my head that fits the only song that breaks the musical theories that I've been studying and practising on. Seems to me that I've been having a lot of change in styles on the guitars.
Of course, it sounds good, but it's not a good thing.
Simpler terms; you sing and rap in so many different ways that people might end up liking 30% of how you do it, and hating the other 70%. That's the problem if you experiment too much I suppose?
The same goes for many other aspects. Purchasable products, games, food.. Whatever.
Anyways, I suppose that I can start structuring this new project that I have in mind, which will focus on my solo work. I guess I can write down and structure all the musical notes first, since I do not have my Midi Keyboard just yet to humanize the pressure velocity in the instruments. As time passes, my affection for what I crave in life slowly deteriorates and decreases, but what I truly want now is to achieve a complete musical bond with.. Well, music.
I may sound like a preacher now, but that's how I feel and see myself nowadays. I have become anti-social, I've gotten away from some close friends - and still keeping in touch with reliable ones, and I have managed to touch myself in terms of music.
At least I'm gaining my roots slowly.. The roots that I have lost since last February until today.
I have Reason loaded. I think I would stop here, sing the notes, and start the structural process. I have to believe in patience over excitement now. The feeling of excitement in getting a project done is crucial and dangerous in perfection.
Then again, the lack of a Midi Keyboard is holding my progress back..
Once again, we review the only thing that keeps all of us back to live in this world.. Money.
Argh.
I'm going to restring my JEM JR tomorrow.
And for those who drops by this blog and doesn't drop by at a certain purple blog, please do tune in to NTV 7 next Thursday, on the 15th of March 2007 at 9pm. Support the local scene as Point Blanc will be performing one of his released singles - Ipohmali along with a guest vocalist that goes by the name of Jaclyn Victor. If you manage to see someone backing Point Blanc during his song with thick and sexy lips, remember to shout "Schizzow" until you receive multiple orgasms.
Mood: - Listening To:Schizzow ft. YonLynn - Love Letter
Everything was delayed. Moe called me up, saying we will be playing earlier than we expected. Our slot was at 11.30am, and well, we ended up playing at 12.30pm. Way to go, organisers.
Sound engineering was bad. Could only hear the performers on stage, and not elsewhere in the park although monitors were set up. They didn't switch it on.
They prepared the amps. I was playing with an amp that had 1/32 life left. Once I plugged my guitar, it died instantly. Literally. The amp went on and off upon its own will before, during and instantly died after the performance. At least Ray's set wasn't that bad. It only screwed up on ME.
Moe's vocals were not crystal clear. Distorted guitars drowned him, and my mic was too loud. It covered all of the instruments including of the lead vocals. Told the soundmen to turn it lower. Picked up the sounds upon unwanted will and was too sensitive. In the end, soundmen didn't even do shit about it although I told them twice. Gave up on the 3rd try and let it be. Should've switched mics with Moe.
Pre-amps and monitors were crap. Not able to withstand overloaded treble - which is kind of weird for amps.
Lost a small amount of flesh due to ramming my thumb against the strings. For the love of music, man. Just remembered that my strings were rusty.. Hmmm.
Wasn't paying attention. Managed to cover up certain parts, and throw obvious mistakes to the crowd. Causes? I would not want to talk about it ever fucking again.
Note: Lucky thing that Schizzow and Ocean of Fire didn't perform today. Ray's set was the best among the slots, but sound quality was still horrible.
Still having stomach disorders..
Finals coming up in a few days. This would only mean.. More Grand Turismo 4 for me.
These were some of the pictures I chose from the great amount of pictures that were taken by our official photographer, Shidi. Seriously, thanks man for the pictures! You did a bloody good job and I love all of the pictures!
And to those I know, Schizzow, Daniel, Paul, Aaron, Joshua's friends, Moe's family, and many others, thanks for your support!
For those who didn't make it, thanks for supporting us in your hearts!
And of course, it was great meeting other musicians.. hope to see you all soon! Feel free to grab any pictures of your band, if you see them down there!!
Once again, thanks Shidi for the pictures! Thanks to Deathstar Productions for hooking us up, the band for the lively performances, fuel and motivation.... and music!!! wooohooo
Okay.. my fingers are going to crack very soon.. captioned... that many pictures...lol
Ying Kit: These are high qualitied pictures.. I have the original pictures, but you can photoshop these too! They're at high resolution too!
Now I see how travelling around from one place to another can be tiring.
It has been pretty hectic for the band even before we left Penang for KL.
Anyways, I just got back from dropping Ying Kit and Paul back with the Moe-bile.
Manual madness yaw x))))))))))))))))))))))
FRIDAY Well, it was the last day of Thaipussam, and there was a major traffic jam that surrounded my area. It was insane, and Moe couldn't get into my place just to pick me and Ying Kit up. So, both of us, as guitarists, we took our electric guitars, 2 acoustic guitars (12 string and the normal 6 string), 2 luggages, 2 backpacks with our effect pedals, and walked from my place to the Fine Tune, where Moe said he would meet us, but we didn't see anybody in sight.
Of course, it was 12.25am and.. well, our bus was at 12.30am. Roy was already waiting like a nervous dude, and well, we missed the bus. Roy managed to get the last bus for the night under a different bus company, and we left at 1am instead.
Imagine. 4 guitars, 5 luggage bags, 1 laptop, and 5 big ass people in the Moe-bile. And the Moe-bile is a Kancil. Wonderful.
Anyways, we arrived at the whore centre Starlight Hotel off Petaling Street in the wee hours. 5.45am. We settled down, chatted a little bit, I checked my stuff, and finished up at 6.30am. I was checking on the guitar's bridge. Was floating once again although it was standard tuning. And during that night, I found out that my tremolo bar rosak-ed. Which caused me to be tremolo-less during the performance just now.
As I was about to call it a day, Roy SMS'ed me, saying that he needs to re-check on the songs since he can't sleep. He came over to the room and we had a small session until 7.30am. Best of all, sound check was at 10am at Taman Budaya for the acoustic set we screwed up on. Oopsie daisy.
SATURDAY Roy woke me up at 9.15am, and seriously, I wanted to get back to sleep. Had my shower, got prepared, and we left off for Taman Budaya to perform the sound check for the major event which was going to take place at night. Don't ask what happened. The sound check was delayed to 1pm. Hmmm.
Since I had that little tremolo bar problem, I decided to get a replacement, and the only place I know that I thought I could get it, was at Bentley's. So I travelled down to Bukit Bintang, also getting lost because of some dumbfuck in Pudu who told me that the LRT station behind the bus station is a Monorail. You don't know how fucking pissed I was when I found out it was a Star Line and wasn't a Monorail. -_-
Got to Bukit Bintang at 3.15pm, met up with the drummer, Joshua Tan, and found out that Bentley's didn't sell any extras. Wonderful. Tremolo-less for one night. Went off to Parkroyal to pick Joshua's things up, and split to take a cab to Starlight Hotel, where we met up with Ying Kit once again, to get prepared for the sound check at the Central Market stage.
As stated a lot of times, we were supposed to be on at 10.30pm, where Estranged switched slots with us. But as we got on stage, we got informed to start off whenever we were done with sound check, and that was 6pm. Talk about frustration. I had to tell those who were going to come to come EXTREMELY early, which I know, caused a lot of inconvenience. Two of them would be Daniel and Paul. So so sorry, but thanks for showing up for the support!
But a few minutes later, The Shahrin's Band made it, and took our slot. So, we were pushed to 6.30pm. Never mind. Then Kouple came along, and asked Paku to switch slots with us (their set was at 10.30pm), and Kouple would play after their set because of their individual band member's plans for the day. So in the end, we were switched back to 10.30pm
Seriously, at that time, travelling around Penang, and to KL, lack of sleep, carrying a heavyass guitar case which nearly killed my fingers, I was pissed beyond all reasons. But thank goodness that every band on stage, their performances were so good, until my anger just floated away with the music.
Good bands.. good bands..
So, we walked to Taman Budaya, where I met up with Schizzow, and managed to get him and the rest VIP passes to the whole acoustic set. The set sucked. I don't know what happened, but the sound engineer screwed things up for us. I couldn't hear Ying Kit during his parts. And due to that, Moe went off beat, and so did I. Being a dead tired musician, I didn't really give a shit.
After us, came Fasy. Managed to catch a tiny winse of whatever he played. Damn good stuff. Soulful.. Every band that I managed to watch with these pure eyes, were really good. Although some played simple stuff, coordination was really good.
So, we went back to Central Market, and caught the 2nd last band on stage, which scared the crowds away with their Whitelight/Swearwood sort of music. Not bad. Coordination and the tightness was there, but somewhat draggy.
After them, came Panic Overdrive. And for the 3rd time playing with the band, we weren't so kayu during the performance. At least we moved around a lot more than we used to. But I have to admit, it wasn't our best performance. All of us were tired, we forgot our parts, I lost concentration during the gig, and all I could do was just to screw things up AND have fun.
Some parts, we went off tempo, out of tune and played the wrong parts, but hell yeah, we had fun.
Hey, hey, I wanna be a rockstar
I suppose pictures would be up once we get all the good shots from our official band photographer, Shidi. Nikon D70S. Mmm-mmm x)..
Now I have a Moe-bile under my control. Wahahahaha. Manual madnessss X) X) X) X) X).
Organised by USM, will get more information regarding this gig, but it's confirmed to be a fund raising charity concert which is going to be held at Youth Park on the 3rd of March.
See y'all Penangnites there! Show some support for the local music scene!
Panic Overdrive will be having their 1st acoustic session under Deathstar Productions, alongside with local bands such as Paku, Fasy, The Shahrins Band, Superbar and Zubira in Taman Budaya (located beside Balai Polis Trafik) at Jalan H.S. Lee.
Time to be advised.
Hope to see you all there!
And that would be Moe, making a phone call to his Sayang.. Wahahahahaha..
Paku's single launching party was held in Church Street Cafe, last night at 9pm. Panic Overdrive were the band selected by Deathstar Productions to pull off the opening act.
Like any other gigs, it didn't start on time as the crowd didn't really build up yet. The whole thing only started off past 10pm. The first song was supposed to be a nice song to rock the crowd, but something went wrong with both Ying Kit and my settings. It turned out that we couldn't even hear ourselves, and pumped up our own volumes. Things went well after that - but not entirely perfect.
Now, through this, I should watch my tone. I've never really had amplifier experience before as I don't play with one. So, my tone pretty much sucked last night. And we played up to 7 songs, which killed me entirely because I wasn't too sure of the 2 new songs, and my guitar went out of tune after I went too hard on the bridge after the supposingly "last song".
I suppose that would be enough of my bitching. It didn't really go that bad. It would've went better if I overpumped the volumes though. I always try not to be too loud, but after watching Paku, I seriously should've pumped the volumes up because I was too soft.
And check this. People would get irritated by sharp sounding instruments, right? When it's over-pitched. My guitar could've killed your ears if you all were there. I was so blur, until I zero-ed down my bass, put my Mid on 7, and treble on 8. Sheesh.
Never mind. I'll promise to work on my tone the next time we jam. Buh.
Anyways, for 10 bucks, I managed to get myself Paku's single which consists of 2 songs, an XFresh T-shirt, and a nice black plastic bag. Hmmm.
The 2 songs are Insomniac (This song has an MTV, and Panic Overdrive cameo'ed in it!), and Bila Kau Redha. Bila Kau Redha can be heard on XFresh very often. Now, my two cents about these two songs? Well, they're pretty damn good. Shit, what am I talking about? This is under Riz, and he's been involved in these sort of things for quite a while, so he practically knows what he's doing, like every other respected musicians here in Penang.
It's been a while that I've heard a genre like this. They're like Creed in a way, except that it's not straight distorted guitars for the rhythm. Their tone is like, heavy and crunchy at the same time.
I don't know man. Anyways, Tower Records are selling their singles. If you can, please do pick a copy up. It should be RM5.50 for singles, if I'm not mistaken? If you like Alternative, Rock, or any other genres that includes nice vocals and good guitar riffs, Paku's the band!
But shit. I want their other songs! They play good stuff..
That's it for me! Today's just another ordinary Sunday where my mum should be coming back tonight. I'm trying to get my inspirations back to do some tracks, but it sems to be fading off over and over again - which pretty much sucks. Bah.
Oh. Moe managed to negotiate with the owner of Church Street Cafe, and he said that he's more than welcomed to let us rock the stage at our own will. So if you have missed Panic Overdrive shows and have wanted to watch us for a very long time, please do let us know and we'll set up a gig over there!
I'll end here. There's another gig going on in Perlis, Deathstar Productions and Paku is going to be there to attend it. I'll be spending my Sunday here in Penang to relax a bit. My flash flu just came back after last night. Buh.
I've never felt this way before, physically and mentally. For two times already today, I couldn't even hold a cup of water properly. If you've been following my blogs, I'm sure you know that I lack of sleep. Coming back at 4 or 5am in the morning today and sleeping till 9.45 was the best sleep I had for the week.
Right now, I feel like shit.
And the performance? I guess Schizzow wasted his trip. I wasted my time mixing and perfecting the beats, disappointed a lot of people and gave a bad impression to some musicians.
I don't even have the energy to start.
Panic Overdrive, Ying Kit's band, started off first because 2 other bands before them pulled themselves out. This I gotta admit, Ying Kit has improved gradually since Dysnomia broke up. He has a different field, a different band, and different skills. I'm amazed that he improved a lot because he must've balanced his time between his assignments and music.
Underwhere performed before we got on stage. It was kind of odd, if you ask me. They've got a drum set, 2 guitar amps, 1 bass amps, a DJ turntable set, and there was only three of us there. Schizzow, Rooshie and me.
The DJ can't even tell that the music was covering our vocals and my guitars. Great assistance, fellow musician.
Although this is not my first performance, but this is my first with FDM. And well, I can't say much, but I pretty much screwed a LOT of things up. I was too tired to even hold my guitar and play the right melodies. Hitting minor chords at major chord sections, forgot all of my distortion settings, and .. I don't know..
I need to refurnish my guitar pick also. I didn't check my pick and I took the wrong one. It was a little bit shorter than the picks I used, and my accuracy to hit the strings were reduced. I've never really cared much before, and through this performance, I just learnt a new lesson because it screwed up my solo and instrumental bits.
And the crowd? I mean, I can't blame the crowd for not being supportive or anything as I'm in no position to do that, but I could count the people watching us, man. I'd say maybe 30? Before us, was even less, so.. There's nothing much to say also. Go do the remaining Maths.
I don't know what else to say, man. It's a total disgrace. I felt like crap after the performance because my standards were brought down due to lack of practice.. Shiet..
On the other hand, it was great meeting up with Ying Kit and other people during that time. And congratulations to Rooshie for winning a sweet handphone! Damn man. .Lucky girl.. Wahahahahahaha..
Right now, everything is over. Last time, I said I wanted to work with Reason and Audition after my Finals, but I think I would want to put that on a break first. I'm too tired beyond all reasons after a shitty week.
For those who were and weren't there, but giving us support, I would like to say thanks and apologise for the shitty performance because of my own condition.
I don't know what else to say. I'm shocked beyond all reasons that I made clear mistakes to the crowd that I never did before. *sighs*
Right before I got out of the car with my mum to have my dinner, I received a call. An unregistered number in my phone book. I picked it up, and found out it was Christina from INTI. Addressing me as Glacius, which not many would do unless it would be from the music scene? I don't know how she got my number, but she asked me if me and my "band" could perform.
"Uh. I'm sorry. But I don't have a band." "Then, uh. Can you go solo?"
I told her that I don't do solo shows as I'm not up to that standard yet, and gave her Ying Kit and Kelvyn's number, since she's desperate for bands.
Crap man. Nobody would watch me play SOLO. It sounds nice, but.. I don't even have prepared materials T.T.. I SMS'ed Schizzow Koh about this odd call, saying that FDM should be in PG at this moment so we all could just go up on stage and present the Sentimentalities album T.T
.. But that didn't stop Schizzow from calling me up, and jom-ing me to perform together. Sheesh. What am I supposed to do? LOL. I can only be heard in two different songs in the album, and wormy's not even around. Managed to get Rooshie after quite a while tonight.
Right now, we're discussing what sort of songs to present. I don't know, but we've made up our mind to do Shed a Tear/Ol' School Memoirs, Burning Desires (Trust me, this is going to be a hard one, after thinking of the arrangements -_-), My Valentine, and A Night In The Sky.
Now, for ANITS, for those who are going to attend the Digi Street Blast, I suppose you all would be able to get a live and sneak preview about what I've been working on, before my Finals kicked in.
FDM is going to be performing! Supporters, friends, people of any skin colour and animals are welcomed to come and support! Wheee.. It's going to be at Penang Upper Street this Saturday, and the time we're performing stays unconfirmed. The whole thing starts from 12pm to midnight. Check it out!
Support support!!
WORMY!!!
WAKE UP PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASEE!!!!! T.TT.TT.TT.TT.TT.TT.TT.TT.T
You know. Sometimes, you may get comments about the way you play
your instrument/or sing. I know I used to be heavily influenced
by Children of Bodom, but I'm slowly fading away from the guitar world
and listening to various music genres.
I am working on this new song, because Dysnomia is short of at least
2 more to present on the 7th July gig.. It's going to be a problem for
us because we've been given 20 minutes to perform (like every other
performer?), and we only have 3 songs?
The completed Seasons of Heartbreaks (journal here) will be performed live for the 2nd time, as its red cherry was popped at the SXI gathering/campfire last week.
But anyways, I rushed through that song and pretty much screwed up on
the bridge of that song.. It's too simple, if you ask me.
Anyways, the link above will only provides the verse. If I could
upload the midi version, where I recorded to the first chorus, I
would've done so. (It's repetitive anyways..)
So, I never expected someone like Evan saying that the song I was
working on sounded like a Children of Bodom song. I don't know
what I did, or what I played, but I didn't feel so. Which is
usually normal, because I can never be the judge of the style I play..
But I think I DON'T have a style, anyways..
Inspirations.. They make me wonder, besides writing lyrics, but it's
the melody that you compose/create.. How do you actually get inspired
till you start sounding like the person that inspired you? I've
always been a fan of Steve Vai, hoping to play like him one day.. so
soulful..but I can never reach that stage.. I know it.
sighs
And now, I've turned to Alexi Laiho, frontman vocalist and lead
guitarist of Children of Bodom, and he has a rather unique style in his
guitar skills..
